Plus Two

Turns out Lavendar wasn't in labor two days ago, after Violet had her kid. She was just really freaked from an accident from which I'd just rescued her.
Nope, she had the kids this morning. Yes, plural.
Two new doelings (twins aren't unusual).
Meanwhile, Violet's doeling is doing well and resembles a cotton ball now that she's dry and well fed...
I milked Violet for the first time yesterday afternoon (my first time milking a goat) and it went well. She stands nicely for it, so long as you feed her ample amounts of grains while keeping her head locked (comfortably) in the milking / grooming stand Kent made for us (have I mentioned how grateful I am to Kent for making this for us?!?). At this point, she's putting out a high ratio of colostrum, so the results of the milking went straight to the adopted kids for their bottles, but I will admit to a ridiculously elevated sense of achievement. Turns out being a breastfeeding mother who has expressed milk herself lends a certain degree of innate skill.

As for names, the three kids we'd brought home from the auction are Ruth, Rahab, and Abraham (as patriarch of the herd). I'm thinking maybe Shiprah and Pruah (the rebellious midwives who defied Pharoah during the time of Moses' birth) for the twins and how about Miriam (Mary) for the pure white one?

Farm(let) life is definitely a lot of work, but I must say the sense of contentment and wonder is nearly overwhelming. I'm loving this!
